From Local Action to a Global Platform Clone

The story of Maryam Bashardost, a member of the SCCBO team, about the team’s environmental activities and youth participation in Mazar-e-Sharif, has been selected and featured in the latest issue of the OMLAS — One Million Leaders Asia newsletter. This is more than just a story. It is part of an experience shaped alongside a young, talented, and creative team—an experience in which we learned, developed ideas, and turned those ideas into action. Climate and environmental issues in Afghanistan remain serious and deserve greater attention and more stories. Addressing these issues is not only about reflecting the challenges we face; it can also create greater awareness and a stronger sense of responsibility among young people toward issues that matter to the wider community. We believe that Afghanistan should not be seen only through the lens of crisis. Meaningful youth participation and practical action in raising awareness and covering climate-related issues can help present another image of Afghanistan to the world—an image of responsible young people who think, learn, and work toward community resilience and a greener future. We congratulate Ms. Maryam Bashardost and all members of the SCCBO committee on this achievement. We also extend our sincere appreciation to One Million Leaders Asia (OMLAS) for providing a platform that helps bring the stories and experiences of young people from Afghanistan to a wider Asian audience.

At the same time, this experience made us more aware of the reality that climate issues in Afghanistan remain serious and deserve greater attention and more stories. Moreover, addressing these issues is not only about reflecting the challenges we face; it can also help create greater awareness and a stronger sense of responsibility among young people toward issues that matter to the wider community.
